Last Sunday, I went to Tashirojima Island, which is famous for cats. We joined a tour intended to monitor the grant project for promoting local foods and cultural exchange organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. I went to the Sendai station at 6:50 in the morning to board the bus for Ishinomaki where we later transferred to a ferry. A one-hour boat ride brought us to the port of Nitoda, on Tashirojima Island.
The other day, the editor of Kappo, a local magazine published in Sendai, elaborated on the planned tour heading to the affected areas of the earthquake and tsunami. I was thinking that as Sendai, especially the center of the city, was recovering so quickly after the March 11 disaster, that it was time for Sendai residents to turn their attention to other more affected areas in the prefecture. His idea coincided with mine.
